The first Audi off-roader is the Q7

Aug 17, 2005
Two years after the concept study “Pikes Peak quattro”, Audi is finally taking the wraps off the Q7 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The first off-roader produced by the Ingolstadt company, the Q7 will compete for market shares in the SUV segment from the start of the coming year. The manufacturer will be taking the first orders from as early as 12 September.
With a length of 5.09 m, the Q7 is considerably larger than any other off-roader produced by German manufacturers. But the Q7 still has a surprisingly graceful appearance, thanks to the expert design work of Walter de Silva, who has created a highly dynamic silhouette with the curved roof line and the sharply inclined C-posts. In the interior of this capacious car there is space for three rows of seats which are so flexible in their arrangement that there is a total of 28 possible configurations. The seats in the second row, for example, can be adjusted individually. Furthermore, the rear rows of seats can be folded away quickly and easily, creating a load area of 2,035 litres. The basic version of the Q7 has independent wheel suspension with steel springs and sport-tuned twin-tube dampers. Air suspension with an electronically controlled damping system and variable ground clearance are also available at an additional charge. The tried-and-tested quattro drive system is responsible for distribution of power. When the vehicle is launched, customers will be able to choose between a V8 petrol engine developing 350 bhp and a 3-litre V6 diesel engine with 233 bhp.
