ALMS: Audi 1-2 victory at Lime Rock

Jul 5, 2005
Only two weeks after their triumph in the Le Mans 24 Hour race, Team ADT Champion Racing has achieved another great success in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS): On Monday, the American Audi importer team scored a 1-2 victory in round 4 at Lime Rock (US state of New England). JJ Lehto and Marco Werner narrowly defeated their team-mates Frank Biela and Emanuele Pirro.
The two Audi R8 sports cars were battling fiercely with the MG Lola of Butch Leitzinger and James Weaver during almost the entire race. For two hours, the three cars were running close together at the front in changing order. But once more, the reliability of the Audi R8 was the key to success: When the engine of the MG Lola did not fire-up immediately after its last pit-stop, the two R8 cars were able to ease away, fighting for victory amongst themselves. All attempts of Emanuele Pirro to pass his team-mate JJ Lehto in the closing stages failed: Lehto/Werner scored their third success of the season increasing their overall lead. Biela/Pirro moved in to second place of the standings.
