ALMS: Biela/Pirro "crowned” champions

Oct 2, 2005
Frank Biela and Emanuele Pirro clinched the American the Le Mans Series LM P1 title with a race in hand before the finale at Laguna Seca following a comfortable "Petit Le Mans” victory.
Audi won the annual 1,000-mile race at Road Atlanta (USA) for the sixth consecutive year. The Audi R8 remains unbeaten at "Petit Le Mans” since its debut in 2000. JJ Lehto, driving the companion Audi R8, was involved in a collision at the start and lost 40 minutes whilst the car underwent repairs. Nevertheless, JJ Lehto and Marco Werner fought their way back to seventh place overall and third position in the LM P1 class, so their quest for runner-up spot remains intact.

Frank Biela and Emanuele Pirro dominated the race after their team mates’ bad luck and celebrated their fourth victory of the season. They lead the drivers’ championship heading into the final round at Laguna Seca on 15 October.
