More braking comfort and safety

The Audi A6 is progressive in design and technology. For the first time, the conventional handbrake lever is replaced by an electromechanical parking brake. It offers additional comfort and safety when starting off and in emergency braking situations.

Functionality

The electromechanical parking brake comprises the parking brake, starting-off aid and emergency braking functions. It is activated by pulling the small brake lever on the centre console.

When starting off - provided the driver's seat belt is fastened - the electric parking brake is released automatically. On inclines too. A particularly practical feature is the electronic starting-off aid, which prevents the vehicle from rolling backwards in hilly terrain.

In the event of an emergency braking manoeuvre via the parking brake, the vehicle can be braked considerably more effectively than with a conventional handbrake because the system communicates with the anti-lock braking system (ABS) and electronic brake-force distribution (EBD) via the electronic stabilisation program (ESP). That gains you valuable metres.
