The newly designed LED tail lights combine Audi design with functionality and state-of-the-art technology. In the A8 LEDs are for the first time used for all the main rear light functions: for the red tail and brake light combination and - as an innovation - also in the amber turn signal lights.
As well as enhancing safety based on their faster lighting, another factor in favour of LED technology is clearly discernible: the attractive design solution. This concerns the particularly high-quality design of the light units themselves, the precise signal they emit and also the way they are integrated into the overall design of the vehicle. The light-emitting diodes last an entire vehicle life, and consume as much as 50 percent less energy.
In other rear light functions - the fog tail lights and reversing lights - and in the front turn signal lights new-style high-performance incandescent bulbs are used. They offer many times the durability of conventional incandescent bulbs. The use of two bulbs in the headlight-mounted turn signal light is a further safety enhancement: if one bulb should fail at any time, the light's function is maintained.
