The most important questions and answers about the Audi music interface.Certain questions keep cropping up again and again – here you will find answers to the most frequently asked questions about the Audi music interface. Can I watch videos with the iPod Video via the MMI?No, the system is not designed to play videos. However, you can listen to the music and sound of video podcasts and videos with the Audi music interface. I am having problems playing videos/video podcastsThe Audi music interface does not transmit image data from video podcasts and videos; only the music and sound are played. The music and sound of videos and video podcasts may take a very long time to start on the iPod. If the iPod does not start to play within 20 seconds, the Audi music interface assumes that there is a fault in the iPod interface and consequently resets communication. The iPod may therefore appear to be disconnected from the Audi music interface and reconnected after approx. 20 seconds, then starts to play the first track by the first artist. I am having problems playing audio books with my iPod NanoOn the iPod Nano with software version 1.2, there is a problem with playing audio books. Due to the absence of a time position, the Audi music interface assumes that there is a fault in the iPod interface and consequently resets communication. Until this problem has been solved by Apple in an update of the iPod software, you should revert to the software version 1.1 to play audio books on your iPod Nano. Why can I not find certain artists in the MMI?As soon as a CD has been imported into iTunes as a "compilation", the artist is moved from the track list to the iPod's "Compilations" list. With the current software, the iPod does not make the "Compilations" list available to external players such as the Audi music interface. You can remedy this situation by not marking the album in question as a compilation in the ID3 tags in iTunes. To do this, proceed as follows: in in iTunes, select all tracks on the album in question and press Command-I (Apple systems) or CTRL-I (Windows systems). You can now edit the ID3 tags for all tracks on the album. Deactivate the check box next to "Compilations". The next time your iPod is synchronised with iTunes, the track and artist list is updated accordingly. How can I navigate quickly from the first entry in a list to the last one?Turn the left-hand rotary drum on the multifunction steering wheel upwards to jump from the first entry to the last one. Turn it downwards to jump from the last entry to the first one. The display in the MMI is updated automatically.
Note: only possible in vehicles with "multifunction steering wheel" option. Can I leave my iPod permanently inserted in the Audi music interface?Yes, the iPod is switched off together with the infotainment system. Please note that the very high or low temperatures that may occur inside a car could damage the portable player and/or impair its performance. For further information, please consult the operating instructions for your iPod. I am having problems with podcast foldersEmpty podcast folders on the iPod can cause problems. We recommend deleting empty podcast folders from the iPod as good practice. Why are the menu items Podcasts and Audio Books not being displayed?Older iPod software versions do not support podcasts/audio books. Please update your iPod firmware to at least the following firmware status:
iPod with video (5G): 1.1.2 iPod Nano: 1.1
For further information, please consult the operating instructions for your iPod. You will find an overview of the various models and software versions on the Apple website: I am having problems with the Mix list (wrong song marked)When Mix is activated, instead of the list being mixed it is always shown in alphabetical order and the first track is marked. However, a different track is played. In some cases the track is not sampled.
The iPod interface must be re-initialised. To perform this, please reset your iPod as follows:
iPod without Click Wheel: press the Play/Pause and Menu buttons simultaneously for 6 to 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears.
iPod with Click Wheel: press the Menu button and Select button (at the centre of the Click Wheel) for 6 to 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears. I am having problems with the Mix function (slow/no response)After the Mix function is switched on, the system is blocked for about 90 seconds. Then various fault profiles occur; for example, the display and the track played may not match.
This malfunction occurs with the iPod 5G with firmware 1.2 and is due to the modified iPod firmware. To avoid problems, please revert to software 1.1 for your iPod. Why are the contents of the entire iPod activated by the Mix function?Mix is always based on the scope for repeating. If the latter is set to "off" under "Setup", the contents of the entire device are mixed. I am getting the message "Folder contains no playable tracks"The iPod interface must be re-initialised.
Why am I suddenly unable to operate my iPod via the MMI?The iPod interface must be re-initialised.
Can I connect up an iPod Shuffle with the iPod adapter cable? No, because this device does not have a supported interface. The iPod Shuffle can only be connected up to the Audi music interface with the Aux-In cable. However, the iPod Shuffle cannot be controlled. What do I need to note about the Aux-In cable when connecting up a player? To avoid noise interference, it is advisable to switch to radio before connecting up the player. How do I change the volume of a player connected up via Aux-In?You can adjust the volume of a player connected up using the Aux-In cable via the MMI. You should set the volume of your player to approx. 70 % of the maximum volume. You can in addition adjust the input level in the Setup menu of the Audi music interface. Is my iPod recharged when it is connected up with the Aux-In cable? No. Only iPods that are connected using the iPod adapter cable are recharged. What is the right way to stow the iPod?Place the iPod on its back in the storage compartment. Run the iPod cable behind it, so that it cannot be trapped when the glove box is closed. How do I change the adapter cable of my Audi music interface? The plastic component printed with "Audi music interface" has a flap, behind which a universal plug is fitted. The flap can be opened on the right-hand side and folded to the left. The cable itself can easily be removed by pressing the catch and gently pushing the cable inwards. You can now pull off the cable. The volume is too low compared with the CD/radio sourceCheck the volume of the external player (possibly by disconnecting it from the Audi music interface and connecting up headphones). If the volume level is not in the lower third, you can increase the input level via Setup. The Audi music interface must be activated as the source when doing this. Why does my iPod start to play from the beginning when it is reconnected? When the iPod is reconnected, the Audi music interface does not know from the interface how the last song played was called up (e.g. via Genre or Track). That is why the first song in the first folder (including any sub-folders) always starts to play. Why is the storage compartment not built in?The storage compartment in the Audi music interface is designed for mobile digital players. These generally contain a hard drive. During vigorous negative and also positive acceleration, the rubberised compartment prevents the player from rattling and sliding around in the drawer, and thus potentially from being damaged. | |
